There was recent discussion about criteria for election into the HOF, esp. from Richard Evans. The talk revolved around Safin. Evans made it clear that the history of playing is not the only consideration for induction.
If the history of contributions that Vic Braden has made to American tennis is considered it is obviously comparable to both Mark McCormack and Gene Scott. I believe there was discussion about their recent consideration for induction.
Like McCormack Braden worked to promote professional tennis when Jack Kramer and Gonzales were playing. Vic even played some matches reported with Bobby Riggs. His tennis college in California is recognized world wide. He has illuminated many of the previous myths regarding match play and the physics of tennis. He has coached innumerable players and coaches in a tremendously long period of time and continues to do so today. He has written numerous books and continues to contribute to numerous publications. He has recruited experts from other fields to study and consider the game. He has done television and has spread the game throughout the world.
Braden completely dedicated his life and soul to the game and got where he was by working extremely hard. Anyone who has had personal contact with him will testify to his charisma and character. I think Vic deserves serious consideration for HOF induction.
