    Berlin Final: A Russian Invasion

    D. Safina def. V. Azarenka: 6-4, 6-1 in semifinal at Qatar Telecom German Open in 1h 27m

Elena Dementieva def. A. Ivanovic: 6-2, 7-5 in semifinal at Qatar Telecom German Open in 1h 33m

Dinara Safina is taking no prisoners.  She seems relentless, even merciless now that she has slain two giants.  But while Marat's sister was shaking up the clay bigtime, Elena Dementieva took two surging Serbs (remember them?) out to the tennis woodshed and spanked them soundly.  Yesterday Jankovic fell to Dementieva in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-3).  Today Dementieva faced an overburdened Ivanovic (forced to play twice after her match against Szavay was suspended yesterday due to darkness) and took out the #2 ranked player.  No small feat from Elena's racquet.  But going into tomorrow it is clear that Dinara has pulled off the bigger upsets with the defeat of Henin and Williams.  And yet, Dementieva could still upset the giant killer.  Tune in tomorrow tovarich.
