S. Williams def. J. Zheng in semi-final at Wimbledon: 6-2, 7(7)-6(5) in rain delayed 1h 25m
Well, it was a virtual repeat of the Venus/Dementieva match: Zheng could hardly get her motor going in the first set and Serena cruised to an easy win. But came the second set and Zheng shifted into overdrive with highly efficient, precise form: a relatively low-speed first serve that seemed to throw Serena off her stride, and a surprisingly hard forehand that was very accurate. Serving in the sixth game Serena was broken by Zheng and was down 4-2. There wasn't any outward sign of irritation, but not only did Serena break Jie right back, she held serve to level the set at 4-4. They wrestled each other before the rain kicked in at 5-5. Back on court with Jie serving for the eleventh game they hit each other for a long while before Jie held. Serena did likewise and the tie-breaker was set. Jumping out to a 3-0 lead, Serena looked like she was ready for a quick finish...except Jie wasn't finished. She battled back, eventually gaining five points, two crucial points behind the victor. Bravo Jie, for an amazing run. Hopefully we'll see more of you in the future.
And now Serena wants to reign over Centre Court (she had 14 aces against Zheng); she certainly has that fierce, determined look in her eyes. But The Queen will not be dispatched easily. Oh no, The Queen is looking to enhance her glory also. And a mighty power is The Queen. The killer is ready to charge the throne; The Queen awaits, ready to unleash her deadly serve.
