Meanwhile at Tennis Channel: Wimbledon no longer exists....

Meanwhile The Tennis Channel is showing Courier vs. Wilander and other "Legends" play some non-event. No mention of Wimbledon! They tooted their horn (and continue to do so) when they bought the rights to all the slams, but totally overextending themselves financially by doing so; so, they sell pieces of the pie (their rights) to bidders including NBC, who, of course, stiplulate that on days that they have coverage, TC is not allowed to show any repeats of matches. The rationale: NBC assumes that if one cannot watch repeats at night during primetime one will be forced to watch their daytime coverage. They don't care that working stiffs may not be able to watch daytime matches, nor do they give a s*** if tennis fans can't watch taped matches at night on TC.

This does not happen with golf. The Golf Channel is a serious network and the sport and its organizations are mature and cognizant of their responsibility to the game and its fans. It's about the long term building of relationships and cross-network cooperation. In tennis once a member of the Wimbledon TV troika is no longer on it either subverts their so-called partner and/or shut-out fans.

That is not how you grow the game. What a sorry state. But what's new, this has been going on for decades.

This is Wimbledon time and here in the evening/night its as though it does not exist when it comes to the Tennis Channel. Brilliant negotiators!

Re: Meanwhile at Tennis Channel: Money talks

I agree with you.  I am so tired of what NBC does with its money.  Yes, money talks in this world and NBC pays the most for its rights, but why abuse the privilege it purchases?  No one is going to buy less of their sponsors' products if they get to see replays on other stations.  NBC can make deals, in fact, with the other channels to have their sponsors' products promoted in the replays somehow.  How many times do the sponsors think we need to see a commercial before we decide whether or not to buy a product?  If we don't want it, we won't want it the 30th time the commercial runs.  If we do, we will think of it after one or two airings.  The same goes if they imagine the product promoted on the replays.  The people like us who comment on this stuff in these message boards seem to only be talking to ourselves.

Why couldn't TTC broadcast the doubles? I'm listening to Radio Wimbledon enthralled in the 5 set Blake/Fish match that ended just before 9h30 GMT. Nobody wanted to show 2 Americans in a dogfight with the #2 seeds? Shame on TTC. Who cares about the Outback series this week?

Re: Meanwhile at Tennis Channel: Wimbledon no longer exists....

FYI:  Tennis Channel's deal with Wimbledon allows them Primetime, replay rights to the tournament for the first 10 days. They can't show matches after that.  As for the Golf Channel being a "serious network". Did you happen to notice that they have the rights to exactly zero major championships?  So which network is more "serious"? One with partial rights to all 4 Grand Slams or the one with rights to carry none of them.  Sorry if you're frustrated but not exactly solid logic there.  LOL
