    Murray running game

Andy Murray won a 3 set with his tenacious play, against the Frenchman J Benneteau (FRA) 46 63 61 ‘a lot of running Murray said in his interview. I serve terrible , I manage to turn it around.’ Murray very rarely attains quick points with the style of play. I get the feeling he enjoys the running more than the point. If he continues to play this game the question has to asked , ‘Can he play  the best of  5 sets consecutively . His record in slams US Open, and Wimbledon suggests he plays one tough 5 set match,  then loses. Gasquet, 2 sets down wins in 5 then loses to Nadal Wimbledon 4 set win over Nadal loses in 3 sets against Federer, US Open. Wimbledon this year 5 set against Wawrinka,  followed by a lost to Roddick  a few rounds later.   Mental and physical exhaustion could be the reason. Nadal is the only player in this era who has won with a similar style, but the Spanish bull attacks at the approriate moment. His body has paid the price. Time will tell.

I thought Andy should have used these Masters events to work on developing a more aggressive style (as did the rest of us, right?), but he chose to go another route...

I think if he could serve at 65% and shorten/ dominate a greater percentage of points, he'd be headed for No. 1.  I think he could do both quite easily, and he may do them next week, but if he doesn't I think you're right, he'll be in danger of running himself out of the tournament.

Murray is overated! Just as you said, his best points come from when he's on the move, so he loves running. Anyone who enjoys running has to be physically and mentally tired over a 5 set match. Maybe he doesn't know how to win the points quicker. That style of play will take a toll on his body. Chasing balls is his style of play and you shouldn't change a winning formula. Follow him and Nadal over the next few years and see where their games are and if they can keep up that level and style of play. Unfortunately, chasing balls is what it takes for them to win.
