  • Re: Rejuvenated Djokovic ready to be king in 2010

I'm sorry DMan1, can't go with the bet you proposed. I can see why, though, you'd be reluctant to pull the trigger on a straight-up Fed v. Djoko slam win bonanza in 2010. The Fed will play second fiddle to the boss from Serbia from now on. And I think Benneteau beating Fed is the bigger upset over Young v. Spadea, seeing that Young is 15 years ...

  • Re: Serena and Sarah

Oh, I like that a.hack, Serena being the Sarah Palin of tennis. Who has the better hair-do? Does that make Agassi the Jerry Brown of tennis? And, RP, that was a beautiful analysis of Serena, and it is true, what Richard Williams did, and of course the Williams sisters, will never be matched in any sport. I'd say the closest thing to it is Ken ...

  • Re: Rejuvenated Djokovic ready to be king in 2010

Dobey, don't try to get in the way of important business here over whether it should be called a slam or a major. Major, anyway, is so golf it has to be called a Slam, not a Grand Slam, which is winning four slams. Anyway, RP, I like you're thinking, if T-boy wants to take his Rafa (but why the heck should he since Rafa has like zero chance of ...

  • Re: tennis channel interview with Andre was not good

Whoa, Nelly. I didn't see the interview, but why should an interviewer ask Andre about Del Potro? Why does Andre care about Del Potro? I'm pretty sure Del Potro doesn't appear in Andre's book. And why should Andre care about Nadal? And if you think the Blake match was one of Andre's biggest matches, think again. That was a quarter-finals match ...

  • Re: Rejuvenated Djokovic ready to be king in 2010

Alright, DMan1, I'm in. Why don't we bet on who wins more Slams next year, Roger (I lost to Julien Benneteau 3 and 2 Federer) or Novak (I'm finally used to my new racket and I kicked the butt of Nadal and Cilic already this fall) Djokovic. Let's go with a nice dinner either in New York or San Francisco, loser pays. I'll take Djoko. Also, a side ...

  • Why doesn't Serena get respect?

I've just been assigned a feature story to write on Serena Williams and it strikes me that she doesn't receive a whole lot of respect. The whole US Open tirade against the lineswoman only added to this disrespect. Why do you think Serena doesn't get the respect and adulation of an Agassi or Roddick or a Chris Evert? Is it simply racial? Is it her ...

  • Re: Rejuvenated Djokovic ready to be king in 2010

I can't see Djoko as not being a guy who doesn't win at least five slams. I mean I don't buy that he's a three-set player rather than a five-set player. He is only 22 and his forehand has improved a great deal, as has his match play and serve. Now the fact that Federer tooled him at the US Open makes me hesitant to anoint Djoko the #1-ranking in ...

Two slam in '10. Aussie Open and US. Gotta happen, he's playing amazing.

  • Re: I've read the Agassi book...

I didn't say I was determined to dislike the book b/c I'm not a big Agassi fan. I think he was a remarkable tennis player and personality and I was prepared to like the book and Agassi when I started reading it. What made me change my mind to a certain degree is the voice in the book which is looking for a scapegoat as to why Agassi was forced ...

  • Do people appreciate Stepanek?

I know I do. He's one of the few guys I'll watch anytime he's playing. To beat Murray in Paris and Cilic is Basel (and oh so almost Djoko), and the guy is 30 and was a Challenger player until he was like 23 or 24. Amazing. I just love watching him play. He plays at a brisk pace, serves and volleys almost all the time indoors, and if you never saw ...
